About FMA

The Fiji Mathematics Association was inaugurated in the year 1973 by Mr. Peter Saunders of the USP and since then has strengthened year after year despite the disturbances of the 1987, 2000 and 2006 coups. Today, FMA is involved in several activities geared towards promoting the teaching and learning of Mathematics in classrooms together with the professional development of teachers in both Primary and Secondary schools.

Needless to say, all students who are participating in the Fiji Mathematics Association organized activities are doing extremely well both in their internal and external examinations.

We have been able to reach the schools in the outlying areas and also to have them involved in our   organized activities.

The number of entries in the Fiji Mathematics Competition (FMC) shows an increasing trend as this competition is becoming very popular in Fiji schools. The Team Mathematics Competition (TMC), on the same token, is receiving similar positive response from schools year after year at both, zonal and national levels. It is pleasing to note that since the entire quiz questions are based on the local school curriculum at different levels, the students sitting for these competitions tend to enjoy the problem solving exercises as they are challenging questions at their respective levels. This apparently helps them to prepare well in advance with lot of confidence for their examinations.
